This will be the first of many posts, but I love these pics so much that they made it first. We went with my family to Shaver Lake in CA for Christmas where we had 7 kids (2 babies, 2 3 year olds, 1 1 1/2 year old, 7, and 9 year old:) and 9 adults in a huge house with lots of snow! It was a fun time. Here are some pics of Cody (9 months) and his cousin Kael (6 months) together in the kitchen sink at Shaver Lake.
Psalm 127:3 "Behold children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward." For the past 4 days I have been seriously doubting this verse. World War 3 has broken out at the Buell house. Micah has decided that he doesn't want to swallow his food. We are not sure if it is b/c he would rather play than eat or if he is just not wanting to eat. But he will take a bite of food, chew it, and then not swallow it. This is a battle that lasts 2 hours in the morning with us "training" him to obey. I don't mind that he doesn't want to eat b/c I know after a while he will get hungry. It is simply a battle over him needing to obey us when we ask him to do something.
However, I have to admit that my attitude has been lousy. I have been angry, upset, and thinking that this is not fair that my child would behave so badly!! My husband wisely pointed out one time as Micah sat in his room (with all the toys removed), that this is a lot like how God has to wait for us to obey. He is not in Heaven reacting in sin because we choose to disobey Him. He waits patiently for us to turn from our sin and repent. He has given me so much grace and has waited so often and so long for me to turn from my sin, how can I not wait for my sinful 2 year old to learn how to obey? Proverbs 22: 6 says "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." My responsibility as a parent is to follow God's Word. I am responsible to show Micah how to obey and to lovingly give him consequences when he chooses not to obey.
Today has been day 4 in our battle. I waited 2 hours this morning at breakfast to get him to swallow one bite. However, at lunch it only took 10 minutes!! Does this mean that its over? Probably not. He will probably fight us at dinner. I hope and pray he doesn't, but if he does, I am going to try to react in a joyful manner. I am going to try to be thankful that God has given us these precious children as gifts and respond in joy that I am able to stay home with them and watch them grow. I just pray that they will grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and that I will be a good example to them for Christ. Because children truely are a gift from the Lord. I will choose to rejoice that God has blessed us so much.
The following quote was taken from this link "America Has Chosen a President". For the full article go to: http://www.albertmohler.com/blog_read.php?id=2715
"We must pray that God would change President-Elect Obama's mind and heart on issues of our crucial concern. May God change his heart and open his eyes to see abortion as the murder of the innocent unborn, to see marriage as an institution to be defended, and to see a host of issues in a new light. We must pray this from this day until the day he leaves office. God is sovereign, after all."
Holy One
Holy One
All creation bows to worship
Hallelujah Hallelujah
Glory in the highest
I will sing
I will sing His praises forever
God He reigns
God He reigns
Holy is the Lord of heaven
God He reigns
God He reigns forever more
All I need is You
All I need is You Lord
Is You Lord

Even though it has been decided already, I just read this article. I was really touched by this paragraph: "Eighth, we must pray that Americans will be prepared to accept the results of the election with respect and kindness. This will be no time for rancor, condemnations, and conspiracy theories. Instead, we must pray that God will settle the hearts of the people. May Christians be ready to respond with prayer, respect for office, and a gentle spirit. Others will be watching".
1 10 oz. bag of mini marshmallows
1/4 c. light brown sugar, packed
3 Quarts popcorn, popped
1 cup of plain or peanut M&M's
1. Melt butter in a pot over low heat. Add marshmallows and brown sugar; stir continuously until melted. Remove from heat.2. Pour popcorn and M&M's into pot; toss well. With buttered hands, shape into 2 1/2 inch balls. Set on wax paper to dry slightly.
The other day I posted this recipe and then made them at a HS small group event. Well, silly me, I wrote 4 cups of brown sugar instead of 1/4 of a cup. They were so GROSS!! So here is the corrected version!! They are really really yummy though!! So sorry if anyone made them when I posted them earlier:)
